The play is a comedy drama set in North London in the 1970’s.

Fifteen year old Abigail, of the title, never actually appears, because her first unsupervised birthday party is going on next door.

Meanwhile, the “grown-ups” gather for their own drinks and nibbles soiree at the home of pretentious hostess Beverly and her estate agent husband Laurence. Invited guests are their recently moved in neighbours Angela and Tony together with Abigail’s mother, Sue.

An awkward evening of suburban domestic entertaining follows, the G & T’s flow freely, and eventually the cracks appear and the marital facades begin to crumble.

One minute funny, the next excruciatingly painful and at times sad, the tense atmosphere of the play builds up until it eventually explodes.

“… Ange – you’ve just sat down and put on your lipstick. Next time, will you try this for me?  Just sit down, relax, and say to yourself “I have very beautiful lips” …” – Beverley
