Absurd Person Singular is one of Alan Ayckbourn’s most successful and funny plays.

The play opened in Scarborough and in London in 1973 and transferred to Broadway where it ran for 592 performances.  Since then there has been many revivals of this much acclaimed play.

The action takes place over three Christmases in the kitchens of three couples.  The first is the up and coming Hopcrofts in their new gadget-filled kitchen; the second is played in an architect’s manic, untidy kitchen and the last in a Bank Manager’s large, old fashioned house.

All of this leads to some hilarious behind-the-scenes Christmas disasters providing plenty of comic entertainment for the audience.  As ever with Ayckbourn there is always a darker side to his comedy and, although we laugh at the characters, we recognise and have sympathy for their very human condition.
