Ken Harrison is a bright, funny and talented sculptor who is used to being in control of his life. He has been so severely injured in a car crash that he is totally paralysed and only his brain functions normally. He is being kept alive by the miracle of medicine but refuses to submit quietly to his fate, and is determined to be allowed to die.

As the individual at the centre of this witty but thought provoking play, Ken could achieve his aim by discharging himself, but being wholly helpless has to gain the authorities’ consent. He is desperate to be heard and to reclaim the decisions about his own life and death.

The play examines the moral and legal aspects of the situation, and the reactions of the hospital staff, before finally the whole matter is laid before a judge who hears the evidence and gives her verdict.
